So - you're a newly minted Cub Scout leader. We somehow got you to sign an application and now you are wondering what to do! Well - here is the quick down and dirty for Cub Scout Training.
ANY QUESTIONS AT ALL, please contact the Cubmaster.
Having adequately trained leaders is one of the cornerstones of Scouting and it helps to ensure continuity of all programs across Scouting, as well as the safety and proper conduct of all Scouts and their Leaders. There are even some training requirements that are required to be met to have the proper insurance coverage as well. All very important stuff.
In Cub Scouting there are two sets of training requirements... the first is the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) required training. These are the absolute MUST HAVE's. Additionally, since our Chartering Organization is a Catholic Church, the church requires that all Adult Leaders also attend the "Protecting God's Children" course. So... all adult leaders will complete that course as well.
Recognize that it may seem like a lot to begin with, but once it's done... there's very little further ongoing training that is required. There is a lot of training available, however, for those that want to broaden the opportunities for themselves and their den or the pack.
BSA REQUIRED TRAINING:
The BSA required training consists of two parts that MUST BE COMPLETED BY ALL ADULT LEADERS as soon as possible:
Part I: (online learning)
1. Cub Scout Fast Start Training (Position specific) (online) AND
2. This is Scouting (online) AND
3. BSA Youth Protection (online)
Click on the link below to access the online training:
Cub Scout Fast Start, This is Scouting, and BSA Youth Protection Training
(NOTE: The training will initially ask you for your Scouting I.D. #. If you have that - please enter it. If not - just click to proceed. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS PRINT YOUR COMPLETION CERTIFICATE AT THE END OF AN ONLINE COURSE.
Part II: (in person / classroom learning)
1. BSA Position Specific Training (in person/class) AND
3. Catholic Protecting God's Children (in person/class)
The BSA Position specific training is offered twice per year... once in the Fall and once in Spring. As soon as you are informed of the dates, please take the time to place it on your calendar - and prioritize it, if at all possible, to ensure you can attend.
The Catholic Church training "Protecting God's Children" takes place at various parrishes in the Manchester diocese throughout the year. Information is posted in the calendar section of the website as to when, and where, the course is offered.
ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS MAKE A COPY OF YOUR COMPLETION CERTIFICATE AT THE CONCLUSION OF ANY TRAINING. The Cubmaster MUST receive a copy of all training completion certificates. As the saying goes... "If the pack doesn't have the certificate of completion - the training never happened."
THANK YOU for helping support the Pack and your son. The entire Pack will benefit from your participation, and again... ANY QUESTIONS AT ALL, please contact the Cubmaster.
